After months and months of planning and preparation, Rotorua MCC hosted Round 3 of the New Zealand Senior MX Nationals at the beginning of the month and our annual Interschools MX Challenge a few weeks later with record numbers for both events!

What an awesome time it was to watch the best of New Zealand’s racers converge on Rotorua’s track to battle it out for the ultimate title of their class challenged by a few international riders from the likes of Australia, UK/Great Britain and Japan. They all raced hard and fast to battle it out for the title, putting on an awesome show for the visitors to our track. It was great to see the huge numbers of riders in the MX3 class, showing there are lots of people keen to give it a go, but maybe not the most keen on bumping handlebars with the big guns. The day began with some fine weather, not to be overshadowed by the small rainshower we had about midday. The track held up really well, with raving reviews from riders and spectators. the day ended well with no injuries which is what we like to see! We want to see everyone back out on the track, not in casts or on crutches!!

Again, the Interschools MX Challenge returned for 2015 with record numbers again – a total of over 430 riders across the 2 days. With such huge numbers in some classes, we were forced to add in qualifying, adding to the atmosphere of the day, to the joy and upset of some. The weather held up for us with minimal weather issues. Was nice to start Friday off with some fog hanging about to then clear up for a nice warm sunny day – some might even say hot..? There was some awesome racing on the track and displays of sportsmanship, with riders stopping after their races to shake their mates hands thanking them for a good race and congratulating them on their effort.

Saturday was the day for the little ones to shine and have a go on a shortened course on the big track. A bit daunting for some having never raced on that track before. It was good to give them a taste of the bigger exciting things to come.

There were many photographers out there across the events. Thanks to them for snapping up the day for us. It’s good to see the littlies particularly having fun. Check out these links below for all the action captured by the photographers over the events. You might just see yourself in there somewhere

Huge thanks to those who have supported Rotorua MCC with these awesome events. Without their support and help we could not have run such successful events. We look forward to a repeat of these events next year. A huge thanks also goes out to the Committee who have tirelessly put in hours of work behind the scenes working away to organise all the ins and outs of the events.
